I previously discovered that John’s sister was Elizabeth Bartosik. She was married to John Bartosik and they had five children according to the 1920 Census. Their names were John, Walter, Francis, Helen and Lewis. At this time they lived in Bloomington, IL. I can’t find them in the 1930 census, presumably another misspelling.

As of the 1910 census, they were living in Wenona Il and John worked in the coal mine. It appears that John had two brothers living with him at the time, Joe and Karl. They also worked for the mine. They lived on North 1st Street. (Name spelled Bartosek in Ancestry.com)  Although I can’t find the Senalik’s in Wenona on the 1910 census, I know they were there in 1911 because John F. was born there.

I believe that John Bartosik arrived in this country April 13, 1906 in New York. He left from Glasglow Scotland on the Astoria on March 31, 1906. His stated destination was Lexington, Mo. to meet up with a cousin named Kowalski.

Before John F. Senalik died, he went to visit a cousin in Bloomington, presumably one of the Bartosik girls. Unfortunately, the memory of her name at that time is lost.

Joann has submitted this newspaper clipping. Does anyone know what the Z. N. T. Lodge was? And why would he be a member of the Solvanian National Benefit Society when he wasn’t Solvanian?

Since he died on Thursday January 23, 1947, I assume this was from January 24, 1947 and he was buried January 25.

Agnes’ maiden name was Misiorek. Her mother’s name was (Wiktorya) Victoria. She had two brothers, John (Jan) and Paul (Pawel). Victoria, John and Paul took the ship Rhein and arrived in this country June 6, 1913 in Baltimore.

Victoria was born about 1870 in Poland and died February 3, 1938 in Macoupin county. John was born June 28, 1884 and died March 5, 1950 in Sangamon county. Paul was born June 21, 1895 and died August 1980 in Taylorville. They are all buried in the Girard Cemetery in Section H.

Paul’s draft registration puts him in Wenona Il, on June 5, 1917. He was a miner for the Wenona Coal Co. John’s draft registration puts him in Wenona Il, on September 12, 1918. He was a miner for the Wenona Coal Co. as well. From both of these documents it would appear that they all were living together with their mother, Victoria. The Wenona Coal Co. operated from 1883 to 1925.

In the 1920 Census, Victoria and John lived in Greenridge. I have yet to find Paul in that census. John was employed as a miner. In viewing the original census document, I discovered the Senalik’s living there but recorded with a misspelled name. None of the Misiorek’s appear in the 1930 Census. I can only assume that their name was misspelled on that document.

In his later years, John lived in a small building behind John F. Senalik’s house on Indiana Ave. in Springfield.

From the Social Security Death Index I discovered that Paul was later employed by a railroad. Since he lived in Taylorville, I am guessing that he worked for the Chicago & Illinois Midland which maintained shops to maintain their steam power until about 1955.

In searching for Senalik’s in the 1920 Census, I could not find them. In looking for some other relatives records, I accidentally found the Senalik’s in 1920. The census taker had misspelled the name “Sinalik”. In January 1920, they were living in Greenridge, IL. At the time, there were only 6 children, Walter to be born later that year.

I found John Senalik’s Draft Registration Card. It was signed on September 12, 1918. The name is clearly recorded as Senalik. They were living in Greenridge at the time and he was working for the Ridge Coal Co. He was described as medium height, slender build, blue eyes and light brown hair.

The spelling of the name conflicts with the naturalization certificate of 1921 even though these two documents are earlier dates.

Welcome to the Senalik Family History Blog. I am going to use this to report information as I find it. I have discovered more tidbits of information that I plan on reporting here. Instead of updating the home page frequently, I will leave that to major updates or corrections. Yesterday I reviewed the immigration record for Jan Szynalik.  He left Hamburg April 7, 1908 on the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria and arrived in New York on April 17.  It records his mother’s name as Marya.  In looking at adjacent records, I have discovered that he came with his sister Elzbieta Bartosik and her two children Jan and Wladyslaw.  Elzbieta was born May 18, 1881 and died in April 1973 in Clinton IL.  It indicates that they were headed for Atchison Kansas, although I don’t know if they ever got there.  More on the Bartosik family later.
